Mosquito Magnet® Freedom
Unit Breakdown
Underside of the Freedom Housing
- Large Fan - The Large fan that is located on the underside of
the Freedom power pack has two primary functions.
(NOTE: Please be cautious when looking under the power pack as there is no fan guard)
- Cooling - The trap will overheat and automatically shut itself
off if the larger fan slows down or stops. For it can not effectively
keep the power pack functioning at a normal operating temperature.
- Vacuum - The large fan is also generating the vacuum to
draw the mosquitoes into the net. If the fan slows down or stops there
will be a reduction in vacuum and therefore a reduction in the mosquito catch.
- Small Fan - The small fan located on the underside of the Freedom
power pack has one function, to force out the CO2 the Freedom is generating.
If this fan is running slow or not running at all, it will reduce the
amount of CO2 emitted and will reduce your catch rate.
- Freedom Housing Gasket - This is what seals the housing after
you close the unit to allow for proper vacuum.
- Net Window - The Net Window is a simple way for you to
look inside the Net area to check you need to empty the Net. Older
Mosquito Magnet® Freedoms may not have this feature.
- Drain Plug - This is a feature that will allow the trap to drain
water that may have collected below the Net during a heavy rain storm.
- Attractant Carrier - This is where you would put the
added attractant that comes with the trap.
- Plume Tube - When the CO2
is forced out of the CO2 output tube
on the power pack, it flows through the CO2
tube in the housing and comes out the plume tube. As the CO2
flows past the Attractant Carrier there are air holes on the attractant
carrier that allows the CO2 to flow.
It picks up the attractant as it flows out of the plume tube.
- Trumpet - This is where you can feel the vacuum where
the mosquitoes are drawn into and sucked into the net. This
is where you would do the tissue
test to check for vacuum. Use a small piece of tissue, around the
size of a dime. Hold the tissue under and about a half inch into the trumpet
and let it go. The piece of tissue should be pulled into the net. If it
doesn't check our troubleshooting
steps for this issue.
