Mosquito Magnet® Commercial Pro
Unit will not stay running
The following are possible troubleshooting steps to keep your Mosquito Magnet® running.
Has the Propane tank been purged?
For best results it is recommended that you purchase, own and refill your propane tank with a certified propane dealer for your Mosquito Magnet®. Tanks that have been used before work best. See the section on Tank Purging to know why.
During shipping, movement of the unit, or times when it is not operating, the catalytic beads inside the burner box can become settled or become unleveled. If this is the case the Mosquito Magnet® will not stay running or will not start at all.
To shake the Mosquito Magnet® Pro you MUST DISCONNECT THE GAS LINE WHERE IT CONNECTS TO THE POWER PACK. Failure to do this can and will result in damage to the unit and this action will NOT be covered by the warranty.
With the gas line disconnected, stand on the side of the unit, place one hand on the power pack and one hand on the green housing. It is also recommended that you place your foot onto the stand for leverage. Now start shaking back and forth quite vigorously about 5 or 6 times. Reconnect the gas line and try to start again. Click here for starting instructions.
The image below shows how the catalytic beads should be in the burner box. In the incorrect image the beads are not level, if the beads are like this then too much gas may flow in and not allow for a proper ignition.
Are you holding the gas valve long enough?
Sometimes the gas valve may need to be held longer than the recommended two minuets after the temperature gauge gets into the yellow. If this is the case then it is recommended that you hold the gas button until the large fan is spinning or the temperature gauge gets into the blue area of the temperature gauge. If the temperature gauge gets into the blue and the fan does not spin then try the next step.
Is the temperature in the blue area and the fan is not spinning?
If the Temperature gauge is in the blue and the fan is not spinning then there may be a problem with the fan. If this is the case then try the following trouble shooting steps.
Try giving the fan a push
If the fan is trying to move and if there is dust and/or moisture in the fan it may be causing it to not spin. So if you open the clear door and look through the fan guard and push the fan with a small stick or screw driver and carefully push the fan to make it spin. If it does not spin try the next step. Spray WD-40 in the fan
If the fan just will not spin then you might need to spray some WD-40 into the back side of the fan. This might be necessary as water and dirt or even dead mosquitoes may collect in there and cause the fan not to spin. So from the side of the power pack, using the red tube with the WD-40. Spray some WD-40 on the back side of the fan.You might even want to spin the fan as you spray the WD-40.
If these steps do not get the fan to spin then contact us.
Does the unit run for a while and then shut off?
If the Mosquito Magnet® runs for a while and then shuts down and this happens consistently, this may be caused from the unit over heating. The main cause of this is the fan not running fast enough. This can be remedied by the previous step. If this continues to happen then contac us.
